A 14-year-old Mpumalanga girl was injured in an attempted family hijacking on the R538 in Masoyi.
The incident happened at around 15h00 on Tuesday.
ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring says the paramedics found the girl seated inside a vehicle with several bullet holes.
“Assessments showed that the girl had sustained a gunshot wound to her thigh. The girl was treated and transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” he said.
“The mother and 11-year-old boy, who were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, escaped injury, but were visibly shaken,” says Meiring.
It is alleged that several armed men had attempted to hijack the family.
“The mother was able to evade the hijackers, who began shooting the fleeing vehicle and stop a safe distance away.”
Local authorities were on the scene to investigate further, he added.
