The Embalenhle community in Mpumalanga has been left shaken following a shooting that left three people dead.
A 28-year-old police officer is suspected of shooting her five-month-old baby girl and the 33-year-old father of her child on Saturday.
She then turned the gun on himself.
Mpumalanga police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi says two counts of murder and an inquest were registered by local police.
“Police as well as the medical personnel were notified about the incident and upon arrival, the woman was certified dead at the scene meanwhile her daughter as well as the father of her child were taken to a nearby clinic where the man unfortunately passed on upon arrival.
“The little girl though, was transferred to hospital after being stabilized but later died.”
Hlathi says it’s unclear what might have triggered the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
He adds officers are urged to seek assistance in times of distress.
“If they encounter social problems with the ones that they stay with, they must find help,” says Hlathi.
