The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Thembi Nkadimeng, says the National Disaster Management Centre will assist in ensuring the safety of communities that might be affected by tropical storm Filipo.

According to the South African Weather Service, KZN, Mpumalanga, and Limpopo will be affected by the storm starting Tuesday night, as the storm makes landfall in Mozambique between the extreme south of the Sofala province and the north of Inhambane province.
It is expected to clear up on Thursday.
Affected areas include the eastern districts of Mpumalanga, districts in the northeast of KZN, and Nkomazi LM, including Malelane and Crocodile River.
There is a possibility of heavy rains accompanied by storms and flooding in some areas.
The department’s Legadima Leso says a committee has been receiving updated weather reports from the South African Weather Service to enable and support the provinces that are at risk.
"The contingency arrangements have been activated at the national, provincial and local spheres. All structures and stakeholders will remain on high alert to support the three provinces at risk.
"Minister Nkadimeng urged communities in low-lying and high-risk areas to be extra cautious and work with the relevant authorities on the ground. The communities are urged to be vigilant and avoid driving and walking through flooded roads and bridges."
