The baby disappearance shortly after the mother miscarried on Friday.

Health spokesperson Dumisani Malamule says  the family was given the wrong body by the hospital.

“A C-section had to be performed to take out the fetus, which was done, and the baby was kept at the hospital over the weekend. Then on Monday, the family came to say they need the foetus for a burial and when they demanded the body, they could not be assisted.

“Instead of being told the body was not found, they were given a decomposing fetus, and they started suspecting it can’t be that baby. We did our investigation, we discovered that they were given the wrong body and the body is still missing.”

Malamule says they cannot rule out more suspensions.

“Our first investigation pointed us out to the two nurses that were in charge of assisting the woman and that is why we suspended them. We can also say that our preliminary investigation now shows that they could be more nurses that are involved and there could be more suspension.”
