Mpumalanga police have arrested a 72-year-old woman and her two sons in connection with the murder of traffic officer Thabo Mashego.
The arrest follows the discovery of Mashego’s car at a house in Agincourt outside Bushbuckridge on Monday.
The 35-year-old traffic officer was killed in a hijacking incident on Friday night.
Police spokesperson Selvy Mohlala says the car battery was discovered in the bedroom of one of the sons.
"The information led members to a house where upon arrival, they found an old lady as well as the vehicle covered in white cloth. At first, the old woman refused any knowledge of the vehicle but police discovered that the vehicle was reported hijacked.
"Police cannot rule out the possibility of adding more charges against the suspect and further linking them to a hijacking and murder."
The suspects are expected to appear at the Mkhuhlu Magistrate's Court soon.
