Mr D, UberEats urged to accommodate small outlets

The Competition Commission has urged food delivery platforms like Mr D and UberEats to implement changes to accommodate small food outlets.
It says these companies should encourage fair competition.
The statutory body acknowledged that consumers are presented with a wide variety of major restaurant chains and independent eateries on the sites.
It says, however, those small outlets haven't been able to compete due to a lack of transparency over the commission fees charged by the national platforms.
The commission's James Hodge presented the final report on their findings online intermediation platforms market inquiry on Monday.
"What often restricts this from having an effect is that consumers are not necessarily aware of that. So the remedy that enquiry requires from Mr D and UberEats is to notify consumers through a proper message that comes periodically that they do charge the restaurants commission and that many prices differ.
"This will allow educating consumers to look for a cost platform to see what may be better pricing overall both on a daily basis and of course in times of promotions as well."
