Msimanga ‘undeterred’ by motion of no confidence

Tshwane Mayor Solly Msimanga says he is undeterred by Thursday’s motions of no confidence, brought against him by the African National Congress (ANC) and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF).

Msimanaga briefed media in Tshwane on Tuesday, where he responded to allegations of corruption levelled against him by the ANC.

“I stand undeterred by the motion of no confidence, I will face it as I have faced other challenges in the past. If the EFF chooses to collude with the ANC, in the motion of no confidence, it will be a clear demonstration that they support and stand by corruption and wrong-doing,” said Msimanga.

The motion against Msimanga comes in the same week as the DA’s Athol Trollip was removed as the mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.

The vote succeeded after DA councilor Victor Manyati abstained from voting in a motion to remove council speaker Jonathan Lawack, which opened the door for Trollip’s removal.

Msimanga has denied that the DA in Tshwane would follow the same fate and says he is confident that all councilors will vote against the motion of no confidence brought against him.

“Yesterday (Monday) evening we had a DA caucus as we normally do every Monday before council. Everybody in the party has pledged support to say that we will ensure that what we have started we will finish together. Whether we go back to the opposition benches we will do that together, there’s not going to be a division in the party because we know what we stand for and we will remain that, we stand for a clean and accountable government.”
