Mthethwa launches anti-racism song

Minister of Arts and Culture, Nathi Mthethwa has launched an anti-racism song.

The song has been launched amid increasing racial tension in the country.


The song titled 'No love, No life'  features Mzwakhe Mbuli, Thokozani Langa, Zain Bhikha, Mbongeni Ngema, David Jenkins as well as backing vocals from the late Miriam Makeba.


In the latest racism row - a guest house owner in Durban denied a black woman accommodation - saying blacks and government officials are not welcome at his facility.

The KwaZulu-Natal tourism MEC has initiated a probe into the Sodwana Bay Guesthouse.


MEC Sihle Zikalala also laid charges against the owner Andre Slade.


Police confirm charges of racial discrimination, hate speech, illegal trading and tax evasion have been laid against Slade.


In a statement the department of arts and culture said: "Minister Mthethwa will also at the launch, unveil the Anti-Racism Song tackling the continuing salience of race and racism and the negative role social media has played in spewing the racial bigotry.


"The role of performing arts, particularly music during the anti-racism struggle gained the world’s attention by reflecting the important role it played in conjuring global human solidarity which exposed apartheid’s atrocities and gross human violations."
