Mthethwa to move on reopening of cinemas, libraries

Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa says he will soon issue directives for the re-opening of cultural and art spaces.

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced the new regulations two weeks ago which sees a number of business sectors reopened to the public.
Ramaphosa said that restrictions will be eased for restaurants, cinemas and theatres, casinos and personal care services.

In a statement on Tuesday, Mthethwa said theatres and cinemas are only allowed 50 people or less with adherence to social distancing and strict hygienic protocols.
"The minister's directions will also allow for the re-opening of museums, galleries and archives subject to strict adherence of all health protocols.
"The above mentioned must apply to the minister within 14 days after the publication of the directions and will be approved, subject to compliance with protocols.”
Officials from the department will be deployed to monitor compliance.
