Giant mobile network operator MTN will cut its data prices by up to 50%, effective from 15 April.

The announcement was made by CEO Godfrey Motsa on Friday afternoon.
The decision by MTN comes after a recommendation was made by the Competition Commission that data prices in the country were too high and should therefore be reduced by 30%.

As the county's battles to contain the COVID-19 pandemic, MTN says it will also roll out "work from home packages" in the next few weeks.
This comes after a call was made by President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday that people in the country should practice social distancing by staying and working from home where possible.
Motsa says the work from home packages will make data cheaper and affordable for contract and prepaid customers.
