MultiChoice: Planned strike is illegal
Updated | By Lulutho Mkosi
MultiChoice says a planned strike by members of the Information Communication Technology Union (ICTU) is illegal.
The workers plan on downing tools at 1:30 pm this afternoon.
"The threatened strike action is not only unprotected, it is also illegal," says MultiChoice in a statement released on Friday morning.
The Union maintains a strike notice was served on the satellite television service on Wednesday, in compliance with the labour regulations.
However, MultiChoice says they will be consulting with union leaders to discuss a resolution.
"We remain committed to continue to consult with labour on the proposed restructure in our customer care division under the guidance of the CCMA appointed commissioner in line with the LRA"
ICTU spokesperson Thabang Mothelo says fears of retrenchment and inadequate salary increases are at the root of demands by disgruntled employees.
