Municipal union to march in Johannesburg
Updated | By Slindelo Masikane
The South African Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu) will march to the office of mayor Herman Mashaba in the first week of June.
The union briefed the media on their plans, saying the City of Johannesburg has blatantly refused to engage with organised labour on issues affecting workers in the city.
Samwu's Bafana Zungu says they will deliver a memorandum of their demands.
"The mayor is expected to respond within seven days on the grievances of our members and we expect that the local labour forum that is expected to sit in the City of Johannesburg will be convened and the emerging resolution to be taken there be implemented on 1 July 2017," says Zungu.
Zungu says their members have had enough.
"Our members are saying they can never again accept the worst exploitation and victimisation they are experiencing in the City of Johannesburg, and the daily expulsion, suspension and dismissal at work without a fair hearing," says Zungu.
