Spokesman Lt-Col Hendrik Swart said the body of 19-year-old Edwin Speelman, from Groblershoop, was found in a ditch near the town at about 2am on Saturday.

An eyewitness allegedly saw the victim and a 37-year-old man drinking together at the older man’s home. An argument started between them and the man allegedly stabbed the teenager in the right side of his chest.

The teenager then chased the man into the veld, but he collapsed and died. The man was arrested soon afterwards and would appear in the Groblershoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday, Swart said.

In Kenhardt, police were investigating a case of murder after the body of a 62-year-old farmer was found at his home on the farm Bastersput in the Kenhardt area at about 6am on Friday.

“His head and neck were covered in blood as a result of a wound to the back of his head. It is not clear at this stage how the wound was inflicted. No suspects have been arrested and the investigation is continuing,” Swart said.

Kimberley police arrested four men for attempted murder after Aaron Sage, 29, from Roodepan, Kimberley, was severely beaten up at about 3.30am on Saturday.

It was alleged that the suspects claimed the victim owed them money.

“The suspects allegedly used iron rods and a gas pistol to commit the crime.

The victim was admitted to hospital. Police managed to arrest the four suspects, between the ages of 24 and 36 years old, and also confiscated the silver gas pistol,” Swart said.
