Music producer Chicco Twala granted bail on assault charge

Veteran music producer Sello "Chicco" Twala has been released on R2 000 bail following his arrest at the weekend.

Twala's arrest on Sunday follows a confrontation with City Power technicians in Bloubosrand, north of Johannesburg.

It's understood the two technicians, who were attending to a power outage in the area, tried to switch off the electricity while dealing with the fault.

But Twala charged at one of the technicians, strangled him and pointed him with what is believed to be a firearm.

"Musician Ernest ‘Chicco’ Twala appeared at the Randburg Magistrates' Court earlier today, facing charges of pointing something that resembles a firearm and common assault," said National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane.

"Twala was released on R2000 bail and will return to court on 26 August as the case was postponed for further investigations.”

Chicco and his son Longwe are no strangers to making headlines.

Longwe was among a group of friends in the house when former Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa was killed at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo's Vosloorus home in 2014.

Chicco was later accused of having knowledge of a cover-up, which he vehemently denied.
