Musina court building not permanently closed, says Public Works

The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure has dismissed claims that the building which houses the Musina Magistrate’s Court in Limpopo will be permanently closed.

The building was issued with a notice to close by the Department of Labour on Monday due to health and safety violations.
The closure came amid claims that the dilapidated building was in danger of catching fire at any time.
However, the Department of Public Works spokesperson Thami Mchunu says the court is operating despite the temporary closure.
"Indeed, it is currently operating and as I said, there are those challenges that were created from the contractor that left the job unfinished.
"The department is in the process of appointing a new contractor to complete the repairs and refurbishment work."
Mchunu says the department had to cancel the contract and the matter is now in court for litigation.
"DPWI was then forced to cancel the contract in January 2019 due to non-performance.
"The matter is currently in court, under litigation, following the termination of the contract."
