[MUST LISTEN] Nzimande spills the beans on looming demerit system for motorists

Transport Minister Blade Nzimande has revealed more details of the new penalty system for traffic infringements.
“I don’t want to disclose secrets, the law nevertheless is waiting for the president to sign,” Nzimande told a media briefing in Pretoria on Thursday.
He says the controversial Aarto Bill – which is set to introduce the new demerit system – is on President Cyril Ramaphosa’s desk waiting to be signed into law.
In terms of the legislation, motorists will receive points and when transgressing road rules - points will be deducted.
A depleted ‘account’ will suspend or scrap a driver’s licence.
“We want to inform all you, you going to have twelve points. We start from there, depending on how you behave we start deducting until you hit zero.
A list of traffic infringement with the specific points to be deducted will also be found in legislation.
“You may hit zero in one incident, you drunk, you wipe-out a family, that might be equal to twelve weeks, gone. We suspend you or we take the licence from you forever. That you are such a danger to society you not allowed to use our roads.”
