The NICD's FAQ covers questions like how is the coronavirus transmitted.
According to the NICD, person-to-person transmission of the virus is thought to be taking place mainly via respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes, similar to how influenza and other respiratory pathogens spread.
"Thus far the majority of cases have occurred in people with close physical contact to cases and healthcare workers caring for patients" with the virus, says the NICD.
