Muthambi: We're deeply concerned by loss of municipalities

Communications Minister Faith Muthambi says the concerns of communities must be addressed, if the ANC wishes to retain its majority.

She addressed the ANC Limpopo's two-day local government summit which concluded this afternoon.
Muthambi says the loss of municipalities to the opposition is of great concern.
"We are deeply concerned by the loss of the two municipalities to the opposition in Waterberg in Limpopo and the decline in election outcomes in various municipalities," she says.
The ANC recently loss Ward 10 in Polokwane to the EFF in a by-election held on Wednesday.
"The summit acknowledged a growing concern that the ANC needs to listen to the concerns of communities and its deployees must respond promptly," Muthambi says.
Muthambi says provincial and regional executive members should not interfere with municipal administration, but rather provide guidance and oversight.
With the province's municipalities receiving poor audit outcomes, Muthambi says there should be consequences for management and poor performance.
"Audit outcomes in municipalities are of great concern. There is a need for turnaround strategies and action plans to address the challenges."
Among the summit's resolutions was the filling of vacant senior management positions.
Muthambi says these positions should be filled by February next year.
