Gauteng police are searching for an unknown number of suspects who kidnapped and killed two young boys in Soweto.
The mutilated bodies of the two boys, aged five and six, were found in Rockville on Thursday morning.
The bodies were apparently discovered by community members who alerted the police.
Gauteng police commissioner Elias Mawela says the two boys were reported missing on Wednesday.
“Two children, aged five and six, were playing in the street outside their yard around 17:00. Later on, around 18:00, one of the parents started looking for their child and could not find him, called the other parent. They look for these children and could not find them. They start doing the search on their own, when they see they can’t find the children around 22:00 they went to Moroka police station to report the children missing.”
Mawela says police began searching for the two boys.
“Resources were mobilised, the dog unit and the family violence unit were also activated. Unfortunately this morning those children were found killed, their bodies mutilated.”
