Omotoso and two other accused - Lusanda Sulani and Zukiswa Sitho - face a litany of charges amongst them ranging from human trafficking to sexual assault and rape.

The 97 charges are for crimes allegedly committed between 2009 and 2017 before Omotoso’s dramatic arrest at the Port Elizabeth airport in April 2017.

Attorney Peter Daubermann told the court on Monday that there have attempts to intimidate him for merely doing his job.

He also told of the comments on social media and in the news with regards to his line of questioning of the first witness, Cheryl Zondi.

"If I were to bow to that intimidation and walk out on my clients where would that leave them in this court?" Dauberman stated.

Dauberman said he fears his clients won't be able to have a fair trial.

"I would like to remind your lordship that it is your duty to ensure that the accused receives a fair trial.

“So for the moment my lord I’m going to leave the ball in your court. I’m going to submit to your lordship that your lordship should say something about what’s going on here,” Dauberman concluded.
