Mysterious liquid leaves congregants in a critical condition
Updated | By Suné du Toit
Two people are in a critical condition after they drank a liquid given to them from a pastor in the Eastern Cape.

Police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela says 20 people were given something to drink in the City Hall in Umtata.
"We are not sure whether they were poisoned, but they were given something by the pastor. After that they vomited. We called ambulances to take them to hospital yesterday," says Fatyela.

Fatyela says a case has not been opened.
"We are working closely with the doctors to establish exactly what was given to the congregants. When a case is opened we will start investigating and look for the pastor," says Fatyela.
Eastern Cape Health spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo says the pastor allegedly fled the scene.
"The circumstances are to be investigated by the police and the Department of Health is also going to talk to the municipality to deploy environmental health services in an attempt to investigate and try and get samples from the vomit," says Kupelo.
