Nasi Ispani a political ploy to garner votes- DA

The DA has again attacked Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi's Nasi Ispani programme as a “political ploy by the ANC to collect votes”.

Lesufi launched the Nasi Ispani programme in June 2023 to tackle unemployment in the province.
Statistics SA released the latest unemployment data on Tuesday, which showed an increase from 32.1% to 32.9% in the first quarter of 2024.

Gauteng recorded a loss of 26,000 jobs.
The DA’s candidate for Gauteng Premier, Solly Msimanga, says the ANC has failed to create a conducive environment for the private sector to invest in the province's economy.
"It is high time that Premier Lesufi understands that the government alone cannot create employment opportunities without private partnerships.
"Gauteng residents deserve a government with clear plans to tackle unemployment in the province and create sustainable jobs.”
Lesufi has previously denied that the programme is mere electioneering or another form of cadre deployment.
“All these political parties they serve in the legislature, they know we have put these jobs in our APPs. They can hold us accountable if we are using these jobs for electioneering. They are not doing that. What is the shortcut to going on a public platform and insulting these programmes?” Lesufi said.
