She was elected unopposed in the council chamber on Thursday after the EFF boycotted the election, saying the process was fraudulent.

EFF Tshwane caucus leader Obakeng Ramabodu rejected the election process, saying a deputy mayor must be elected from the existing mayoral executive committee.

He said Moya was only sworn-in to help the DA-led coalition.

"What you are doing here is fraudulent, as the caucus we are leaving. We are not going to be part of fraudulent things, you will regret, you will call us once you have an ethical deputy mayor, she is not fit."

But Moya said she is committed to deliver services to the people of Tshwane.

"We must continue to support vulnerable members of our community and provide essential social relief. It is our duty to uplift and empower those who face economic hardships and to ensure that no one is left behind in our pursuit of progress.

"I would like to take a moment to address my fellow councillors. As we continue to represent our respective wards and communities, I urge you to lean on me for support and collaboration.

"Let us set aside our political differences and work together in service of the people of Tshwane.

Hold me accountable for my actions and let us all deliver on the promises we have made to our constituents in 2021."

Meanwhile, Tshwane Mayor Cilliers Brink said the new position will help stabilise the coalition.

"This position has been created to stabilise the coalition process, if something happens to the mayor or has to vacate office. The deputy mayor assist with the continuity, she will also take over mayoral committee."
