National, KZN leaders to engage Zuma on Zondo snub, says Sihle Zikalala

Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in KwaZulu-Natal Sihle Zikalala believes the purpose of Julius Malema’s recent visit with Jacob Zuma in Nkandla was to inflame tensions within the party.
He was speaking during the opening session of a two-day provincial ANC Lekgotla in Durban.
Zikalala says the Economic Freedom Fighters has been unable to present itself as a convincing alternative to the ANC - and is eyeing those in the ruling party who are unhappy.
“They remain a great threat to the ANC and they are focusing on you both particularly with a dedicated focus to the unemployed and students. They are then focusing as well disillusional members of the ANC,” he said.
It comes as Zuma has again snubbed the Zondo Commission of Inquiry.
This entire week had been set aside for his testimony.
But he advised against appearing at the commission until the Constitutional Court has dealt with his review of Justice Raymond Zondo’s decision not to recuse himself.
Zikalala says he hopes the provincial and national leadership structures will be able to discuss this matter with the former party president.
“We must ensure that we engage with former president to understand the organisation and leaders for the organisation must at all material times embrace the laws of our country and equally to ensure that they subject themselves the laws and prescripts of the country,” Zikalala added.
“In engaging with former president, we must ensure that he’s rights are not undermined.”
