National parks to remain open amid coronavirus outbreak

South African National Parks (SANParks) says there is no intention to close any of their resorts or parks amid the outbreak of coronavirus in the country.
President Cyril Ramaphosa announced on Sunday that gatherings with 100 people or more are prohibited.

Non-essential travel is also being discouraged.
SANParks spokesperson Ike Phaahla says there are protocols in place to ensure hygienic conditions in the parks and resorts.
“South African National Parks has been working on measures to combat the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in line with the actions of the World Health Organisation, once it was declared a pandemic.
“This is very unprecedented and the situation is changing constantly and very unpredictable.”
