She paid the fine on Tuesday.

Ndabeni-Abrahams was charged with contravening lockdown regulations after a picture of her eating lunch at the home of former deputy higher education minister Mduduzi Manana emerged on social media.

President Cyril Ramaphosa subsequently put her two months special leave, one of which is unpaid.

Spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Gauteng Phindi Mjonondwane says the minister intentionally failed to confine herself to her residence.

“The investigations revealed that the visit was not for purposes of rendering essential service or obtaining essential goods, collecting a grant or seeking medical attention, as per requirements of the Covid-19 regulations.

“The state alleged that, on 5 April 2020, Ndabeni-Abrahams unlawfully and intentionally failed to remain confined in her place of residence by visiting Mr Mduduzi Manana's place of residence.”

Ndabeni-Abrahams is set to appear in the Pretoria District Court on May 22.
