Social Development Minister Lindiwe Zulu says the country cannot take any pride the need for a gender-based violence centre.
Zulu was briefing the media after conducting a walkabout at the centre on Friday.
At the same time Zulu admitted that more centres should be built across the country.
“It is nice to be fancy about it, we channelling money into it, we are hiring people, we should not be having that centre period,” she said.
Zulu added that the centre is an admission that South Africa has a problem.
Minister of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Maite Nkoane-Mashabane, echoed her cabinet colleague’s sentiments there should be more centres across the country.
Nkoane-Mashabane said police also need to start changing their behaviour when dealing with cases of gender-based violence.

“Sometimes when you take a job you need to have passion to do the job. If it is just a job to you because you are going to get a day job that is something else.”
