The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) says its ready for the union’s national day of action.
The union held a media briefing in Braamfontein on Monday morning.
Workers affiliated to Nehawu are unhappy with the government’s refusal to increase public servants’ salaries and a failure to offer adequate personal protective equipment (PPE).
The union's general secretary Zola Saphetha told journalists that the national day of action is a "do or die”.
"We are not prepared to lose the fight. Our members and workers are agitated and highly mobilized against exploitative employers who are preoccupied with austerity measures and profit maximization.
"Government has been declaring war for some time now against our members and workers. The time to engage on the battlefield is now and we shall retreat no surrender," said Saphetha.
