Nehawu strike at Wits suspended
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
Trade union Nehawu has suspended
its strike at Wits after the two parties managed to reach a wage
agreement.

The strike started last week Tuesday.
The union originally demanded a salary increase of 9% and changes to the salary grading of the lowest paid workers.
The university was only willing to give a 6.8% increase.
Nehawu's Khaya Xaba says the parties managed to come together and agree on a wage increase of between 7% and 10%.
He says dog handlers, drivers, meal allowance per shift, night shift and night work allowances will increase by 10%.
Xaba says the parties have also agreed to work on a plan to turn Wits into high performance institution and motivate workers beyond salary increases.
"As Nehawu, we further commit ourselves in playing a pivotal role in the transformation of Wits University going forward on matters affecting governance.”
