Nehawu warns ANC over public servant layoffs
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
The National Education, Health and Allied Workers' Union (Nehawu) has expressed shock at the government’s reported plans to lay off about 30 000 public servants.
The union has vowed not to support the African National Congress (ANC) in the 2019 national elections if the government goes ahead with its plan.
Nehawu's Khaya Xaba says the union is ready to "fight fire with fire”.
"Public service is already understaffed, and standard of delivery is already going down," says Xaba.

The Mail&Guardian reported on Friday that the job cuts form part of the government's cost-cutting measures.
The newspaper says the treasury has set aside R4-billion for this financial year to kick-start the process of issuing severance packages.
It would ultimately reduce the government's salary bill by R20-billion.
