Nelson Mandela Foundation: Kathy was committed to SA
Updated | By MornéJK
The Nelson Mandela Foundation (NMF) has described the late struggle icon Ahmed Kathrada as a committed South Africa.
Kathrada died in a Johannesburg Hospital during the early hours of Tuesday morning after battling a short illness and undergoing brain surgery.
According to the NMF's Sello Hatang, Kathrada was committed to the struggle for freedom as well as the struggle to help build a country of dreams.
"He was committed to building a country that cares about the vulnerable in our society. A country that made sure that all of us live in a society that is free from segregation and discrimination," he says.
Hatang says Kathrada was a true gentlement.
"I remember seeing him and he had an opportunity to cut the queue, but he didn't. Not because of his age and not because of his stature," Hatang says.
He is urging South Africans to remember Ahmed Kathrada by help building a respectful nation that teaches key values to future generations.
"Mister K, may you rest in peace. As listeners of Jacaranda FM, the nation and the international community - we will build the nation of your dreams," Hatang says.
