Nepal: Inside the Chaos

JacarandaFM News journalist Maryke Vermaak joined Gift of the Givers in Nepal to document the devastation caused by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake.

Just before midday on April 25, 2015 a 7.8 magnitude earthquake devastated large parts of the Himalayan nation of Nepal.
This is the worst earthquake to hit the region in over than 80 years, ultimately killing more than 8000 people, and injuring more than 18,000. It displaced thousands more.
Three days later volunteers with South African humanitarian aid organisation Gift of the Givers were packed and ready.
Two teams, consisting of search and rescue, medical specialists and media flew to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, to assist in the relief efforts.
