This is after ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa was re-elected as leader of the governing African National Congress (ANC) for a term.

Paul Mashatile took deputy president with 2 178 votes, beating Oscar Mabuyane and Ronald Lamola.

Gwede Mantashe was re-elected as national chairperson, while Gwen Ramokgopa was elected treasurer general.

Fikile Mbalula will occupy the secretary-general's office with Nomvula Mokonyane as his first deputy secretary and Maropene Ramokgopa as the second deputy.

Venter says the ANC general Conference was a victory for Ramaphosa.

“If we compare Nasrec 2 to Nasrec 1 Ramaphosa has doubled the numbers which he has won. Last time he got less than 200 but now it is almost 500 votes between him and Mkhize,” he says.

“I think the top seven is a far more cooperative unit than the 7 of Nesrac 2017, with Ace Magashule and all the other guys. The big question now is what the ANC is going to do regarding the division within the party.

“Six of the top seven are regarded as loyal to the president, the only one that is an outspoken RET supporter being Nomvula Mokonyane.”
