The Reserve Bank plans on launching the new notes, and R5 coin by 13 July.
The South African Reserve Bank plans to launch the first commemorative banknotes to celebrate late president Nelson Mandela's centenary.
The bank issued a statement on Wednesday with images ahead of the planned launch days before what would have been South Africa's first democratic president's 100th birthday.
The notes will be of all denominations from R10 - R200 and will also include the R5 coin - issued by the South African Mint.
"As part of the preparations for the launch, test packs of the commemorative banknotes were made available to members of the broader cash industry to allow them to make adequate preparations in relation to issues such as adaptions of cash processing and cash dispensing machines, ticketing machines and so forth," reads a statement by the bank.
The central bank also confirmed there have already been breaches, leading to some of the designs circulating on social media.
The Reserve Bank wants the notes in circulation by 18 July 2018, on Mandela's birthday.
"These commemorative banknotes and R5 coin will co-circulate for a limited time."
