New board for Eskom
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Power utility Eskom has announced its new board, with current Telkom chair, Jabu Mabuza, appointed as new chairperson.
The announcement follows a meeting of President Jacob Zuma, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa, Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown and Minister of Finance Malusi Gigaba.
Government says they hope the new board will bring stability at the energy parastatal.
Mabuza replaces Zethembe Khoza who resigned on Friday.
Phakamani Hadebe has also been appointed as Acting Group Chief Executive.
The board's first big task will be the appointment of a permanent Group Chief Executive and a Group Chief Financial Officer within the next three months.
The board has also been directed to immediately remove all Eskom executives who are facing allegations of serious corruption and other acts of impropriety.
Eskom has been facing several challenges, including a weak financial position, declining revenues and governance failure.
