New Covid-19 cases drops significantly for the first time since the start of second wave

The number of new Covid-19 cases in South Africa has dropped to 8 147 – one of the lowest levels of new infections since the start of the second wave in December.
Statistics released by Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize on Sunday evening, show that the country’s coronavirus recovery rate has increased to 87%.
However, the number of fatalities remains significantly high with another 300 deaths recorded.
The Western Cape reported 105 deaths, followed by KwaZulu-Natal at 70 and Gauteng at 45.

In the Eastern Cape, 43 new related deaths were recorded, while the Free State recorded 15 fatalities, Mpumalanga 6, followed by the Northern Cape at 2.
The total number of Covid-19 infections in the country currently stands at 40 874.
