New Covid-19 cases rise by over 12 000, 271 new deaths

The total number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 2 523 488.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases said on Saturday evening that 12 371 new coronavirus cases had been recorded since its previous report.
This increase represents a 21.6% positivity rate.
The majority of new cases reported are from Western Cape (30%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (21%), while Gauteng accounted for 16%.
The death toll has climbed to 74 623, with 271 new deaths reported.
A total of 14 936 people are currently admitted to hospital due to Covid-19 related complications.
By Saturday evening, close to 8.6 million vaccines had been administered nationwide.
