New Covid-19 cases rise by over 5 000, 143 new deaths

The number of Covid-19 cases in South Africa now stands at 2 854 234.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases said on Saturday evening that 5 309 new coronavirus cases had been recorded since its previous report.
This increase represents a 10,7 % positivity rate.
The majority of new cases are from KwaZulu Natal (25%), followed by the Western Cape (21%) and Eastern Cape (16%).
The death toll has climbed to 84 751, with 143 new coronavirus-related deaths reported.
By Saturday evening, 14 670 161 million vaccines had been administered nationwide, with over 53 000 vaccines administered over the last 24 hours.
