New Covid-19 regulations gazetted

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma gazetted the new Covid-19 lockdown regulations, hours after President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed South Africans on Monday evening.

From Tuesday, 2 February 2021, the easing of the various regulations come into place – including an extended curfew, the re-sale of alcohol and the re-opening of beaches and churches.

Ramaphosa said on Monday night that the government had taken a decision to lift restrictions following a significant decrease in the number of new daily cases. 

The daily curfew will be in place between 11pm and 4 am. 

However, establishments such as restaurants, bars, beaches and parks will have to close their doors at 22:00 to allow workers time to return home.

The sale of alcohol has been permitted between Monday and Thursday for offsite consumption from 10:00 – 18:00.

On site consumption of alcohol on licensed premises such as restaurants and taverns will be permitted between 10:00 – 22:00.

Places of worship have also been allowed to operate, this will be limited to 50 people or less indoors and a maximum of 100 people outdoors.
