New daily Covid-19 infections top 3 100
The Department of Health says South Africa has recorded 3 198 new Covid-19 infections over the latest reporting period.
Covid-19 infections continue to escalate in South Africa amid a resurgence in the Eastern Cape and Western Cape.
Health Minister Zweli Mkhize said in a statement in the early hours of Sunday morning that there has also been a further 61 fatalities.
The Eastern Cape experienced the bulk of the deaths with 26, followed by the Western Cape with 15 and KwaZulu-Natal with 12.
This brings the total to 21 439 deaths.
A total of 785 139 infections have been reported while 723 347 have recovered.
