New, paperless Menzi primary cleaned out by criminals
Updated | By JacarandaFM News
Equipment worth thousands have been stolen from the Menzi Primary School in Ekurhuleni.
The state-of-the art revamped school officially opened its door last week Wednesday.
The African National Congress (ANC) in Gauteng says laptops, desktops, data projectors, digital video and recorders were stolen from the school.
“By robbing the school, the thugs have clearly declared war against society as a whole,” says spokesperson, Tasneem Motara.
The school caters for over 1000 Grade R to Grade 7 learners, who live in Tsakane.
Over R3 million was spent on renovating and equipping the school as part of the education department’s move to paperless classrooms.
Motara has urged members of the community to be on the lookout for criminals trying to sell the equipment.
“We cannot allow a situation where our children’s right to access quality education is undermined by criminals.”
The department’s officials were assessing the worth of the stolen equipment on Tuesday.
MEC Panyaza Lesufi took to Twitter to show his dismay, tweeting: “What a disappointment”.
