A newborn baby has been found dumped in a plastic bag in the North West.
A Stilfontein homeowner discovered the baby on returning home from work at around 18:30 on Friday.
Paramedics say the residents heard cries coming from nearby long grass.
"Upon further inspection they found the little boy tied in a plastic bag crying," says ER24 spokesperson Werner Vermaak.
The baby is believed to have been no more than a few hours old when found.
"He appeared to be in a healthy condition. He was later transported to Klerksdorp General Hospital for further observations," Vermaak confirms.
Police are searching for the mother.
