‘Nicholas Ninow intended to rape’
Updated | By Sibahle Motha
The state prosecutor in the trial against Nicholas Ninow has told the high court in Pretoria that the accused intended to rape the then 7-year-old girl at the Dros restaurant in September last year.
Both the state and defence presented their closing arguments on Thursday.
State prosecutor Dorah Ngobeni submitted that Ninow kept a close eye on the minor in the restaurant’s play area.
"My lord, taking into consideration the evidence of the child minder, she said there are two sections. There's a section where children between 0-3 years are playing and there's also a section between 7-12 years are playing. The 7-12 are also allowed to go to the other area. It is around that area where the accused went, sat and it is my submission that he sat there preying for the children to see which one will lose sight and see what happened."
The four day trial, which began on Monday, also saw mother and child taking the stand on Wednesday.
The mother relived the gruesome events of the day, telling the court how Ninow attempted to flush the victim's clothes down the toilet.
