Nine arrested as police foil cash-in-transit heist in Hendrina

Police arrested five suspects at a safe house on Friday following a tip-off.

Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale says the other suspects opened fire on the police when they arrived at the safe house.

This led to a shoot-out between the police and suspects.

Four of the suspects fled the scene in a car, a high-speed chase ensued and the suspects were cornered on a highway.

Two other suspects managed to hijack two cars and evade arrest.
