Nine poachers nabbed in KNP in less than a week
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
The South African National Parks (SANParks) has arrested nine poaching suspects in the Kruger National Park since the beginning of the week.
The arrests were made in three different sections of the park.
SANParks spokesperson Isaac Phaahla says the suspects were found in possession of heavy calibre hunting rifle, ammunition and poaching equipment.
Phaahla says the poachers were arrested by the K9 unit, with one of the dogs dying during the operation.
The remains of more than 100 vultures were also discovered next to a poached buffalo.
SANParks has opened a case with police while the remains of two of the vultures are being probed to establish the type of poison used to kill the birds.
