Nine rescued in Drakensberg

The South African Air Force (SAAF) and South African Police Service (SAPS) search and rescue officers have rescued nine people who became trapped in the northern Drakensberg in Mpumalanga, paramedics said on Saturday.

According to ER24's Werner Vermaak, a woman went missing on Thursday in the northern Drakensberg.
“It is understood that she got lost when she could not catch up with her co-workers. When her co-workers realised that she was missing, they went back to look for her. Due to poor visibility the search was called off and resumed the following morning. Her co-workers were in contact with her via a mobile phone,” he said.
"Early on Friday morning her co-workers went back and managed to locate her. Unfortunately, they found themselves stuck on a steep embankment," Vermaak explained.
The SAAF and SAPS search and rescue officers located the now nine trapped workers and rescued them. They were airlifted to Mariepskop where ER24 paramedics assessed them.
“The lady who went missing the previous night was found to be slightly dehydrated and transported to a clinic in the area for further observation. She is in a stable condition,” Vermaak said.
