The police in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested nine suspects for robbing worshippers at a mosque in Nkandla.
The incident took place on Friday, where a large group of men, travelling in multiple vehicles, stormed the place and held up the congregants.
KZN Police spokesperson Jay Naicker says information from the victims confirmed that the men were all armed with firearms.
"They robbed them of their cash, cell phones and other valuables, "says Naicker.
He says the police were notified and immediately mobilised all available resources.
Naicker says the police were able to locate a sedan and mini-bus taxi that was used to flee the scene.
This was through the assistance of the community.
"Both vehicles were intercepted in different locations and nine(09) men aged between 24 and 33 years old were arrested.
Police officers seized three 9mm pistols as well as some of the stolen cell phones and cash.
Investigations are ongoing and detectives expect to make more arrests soon, "adds Naicker.
The suspects are expected to appear in court soon.
