Nine suspects nabbed for R24m State Theatre fraud
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The Hawks have arrested nine suspects in connection with fraud totalling R24 million at the South African State Theatre.
The suspects, aged between 37 and 59, are expected to appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday.
The two former employees allegedly utilised letterheads of existing companies to create invoices without the knowledge of the actual companies.
They then allegedly changed the banking details to those belonging to the suspects' relatives.
Hawks spokesperson Katlego Mogale says the theft was reported five years ago.
"The allegations in this matter relate to money laundering, fraud and theft that took place at the South African State Theatre, which was reported on 4 November 2018.
"It is alleged that two employees from SAST siphoned money for their own personal gain as they flouted the supply chain processes."
