The Mayor of the City of Tshwane, Stevens Mokgalapa, says the investment by Nissan South Africa shows Tshwane’s commitment to becoming a prosperous hub of opportunity.

Nissan says the investment will create 1200 full-time jobs in the city.

Mokgalapa says they are very proud of the new investment.

"As the city, we are proud and happy to welcome the new investment of Nissan in the Rosslyn Automotive cluster. This morning I went to the launch of the new Navara that will be built by Nissan here at their plant in Rosslyn.

"It is an endorsement of the city as an investment destination and also as a job creation hub and we are quite excited to partner with Nissan and we are excited to host Nissan as well. We hope to emulate it elsewhere as well."

Mokgalapa says the investment comes at a time of slowed economic growth.

"That is why I'm so happy and excited about it because, yes, we are building in terms of jobs at this point in time, but this gives us comfort because it will create 400 new direct jobs and 800 jobs so in total it will be 1200 that will be injected into the economy.

The mayor says this demonstrates investor confidence in the city.

"As the city of excellence and as a city which is strategically based because of it being the capital city and with the strong automotive cluster, this is an endorsement of the city's capacity and as well positioning the city as a city that is ready for foreign direct investment,"
