No connection between suspect & AKA killing, court hears
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
The Durban Magistrate's Court on Thursday found there is no connection between a suspect who appeared in the court and the deaths of Kiernan' AKA' Forbes and his friend Tebello' Tibz' Motsoane.
Sphamandla Ngcobo was one of four suspects picked up by police in Cape Town.
The moment was caught on camera and the video has since been widely circulated on social media.
Soon, a news publication reported the arrests were linked to the rapper's killing in Durban last month.
Among the aspects at the centre of Thursday's court proceedings was the video, along with a Mercedes Benz, which IOL reported as being used on the night AKA and Motsoane were gunned down.
The court heard that Ngcobo was initially taken into custody over the weekend for robbery with aggravating circumstances, but at a later stage, the questioning steered towards Forbes and Motsoane's murders.
Ngcobo's lawyer, Advocate Annalene van dan Heever, told the court that her client was being unfairly linked to the killings through the news article.
The court heard this has put Ngcobo's life in danger.
Magistrate Singh then ruled there was no compelling link between Ngcobo, AKA's murder or the vehicle and that instead he would, for now, face robbery charges.
The matter was adjourned to next week for bail.
